Our Buildings

Abbots Hall from about 1860
Great Moulton Chapel during reconstruction

Since gaining a permanent site in the late 1960's, the Museum has both collected and rescued a variety of buildings that help tell the story of East Anglian Life.

Traditional village premises include Crapnell's Backsmiths Forge, Great Moulton Chapel and the Alton Watermill with its Cartlodge and Millhouse.

These can be contrasted with the agricultural, manufacturing and practical uses of the Boby Carpentry Workshop Building, the Mortlock Engineering Workshop and the Eastbridge Windpump.

The lived-in home is represented by our oldest structure, Edgar's Farmhouse, and the Crowe Street Cottages - not yet open to the public but with a unique story still to tell!

Thanks to the previous owners of our site, we are also fortunate in having the Grade 2* listed Abbots Hall, complete with stable block, walled garden, Boulton & Paul potting shed and gardens, as well as the magnificent and well used Abbots Hall Barn.

The most recent building on the site is the William Bone Building, specially constructed to tell the story of the Ransomes Company.
