Fantastic food is available in our Bistro and Tea Room or you can eat outside on tables in Home Close. We specialise in providing locally-sourced produce, lovingly prepared and served in agreeable surroundings at competitive prices. An example menu might be:

  • Freshly filled sandwiches with a homemade salad / coleslaw, (e.g.) Cajun Chicken, Suffolk Ham.
  • Homemade Cornish pasty, chips and salad.
  • Homemade game pie with local chutney and salad.
  • Homemade lasagne.
  • Cream Tea.
  • Slice of our handmade cake (e.g.) carrot cake, coffee and walnut.

Come along for a full meal or just a coffee and slice of cake. We're also open to non-museum patron.

The Food Hall

Gilberts also run Food Hall at the museum which sells a range of homemade and locally produced foods. As well as selling our farmers' market range you will be able to buy Gilbert's range of Ready Meals, handmade and produced by our chefs packed full of fantastic raw materials, no added sugar or salt and where possible, additive and preservative free.

  • Beef. Steak, Red Wine and Suffolk Mushroom Casserole.
  • Lamb. Tender lamb with Tomato and Olive.
  • Pork. Ham Carbonara Pasta Bake.
  • Game. Game with Red Wine and Cranberry Casserole.
  • Vegetarian. Spinach and Ricotta Cannelloni.
  • Fish. Salmon with a fresh herb crust.
  • Shellfish. Scallop and White Wine Pasta Bake.
  • Children's. Meatballs in a tomato sauce.
  • Desserts. (e.g.) Chocolate junkyards.

British Cheese Counter

We have sourced a range of delicious cheeses to showcase how many products we have in this country. From the very local Suffolk Gold to the infamous Stinking Bishop. If you are looking for the best Stilton in the world we have Colston Basset to the dinner party favourite, Cornish Yarg wrapped in nettles. Pop in for a taster!

All the produce in the shop has been either made by us or we have selected it from small producers we have met at farmers' markets or who have a similar ethos to our own.
